Friends of the Library

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

A meeting on June 3, 2008 will explore the idea of starting a friends of the library group.
Other communities in our area have support groups for their libraries. The groups provide support in funding, program ideas, and collection improvements. Our group will start at the beginning. We will work with the library board to identify needs and then move to help accomplish some exciting things for our library and community.

New Community Organization

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Lidgerwood is moving ahead under the leadership of John Popp and Curt Brownlee.
They are the president and vice president or the Lidgerwood Community Club. This organization has evolved from the LBA or the Lidgerwood Business Organization. By opening the group to the entire community, this will allow all folks of our community to join together to help make our town better. Our upcoming projects are Heritage Day. This will be joined with our Kolache Day. On July 26, 2008 we will celebrate our past and look to the future.
Should be a great day. The LCC also has other projects in the works.
Good job guys.

Computers Are It

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I attended the most wonderful class on March 25. Kathy Skroch worked with Richland Co Extension Service to offer this opportunity.
The room was filled with grown ups who are just like me. We all felt a bit uncomfortable with our machines. I can only accomplish this writing because my daughter talks me through it.
We all worked on our assignments and helped each other. Some attempts were successful and others required a bit of help. We all agreed that is was a great class. We scheduled our next meeting in April. It was a great chance for folks from Lidgerwood and the surrounding area to stretch our skills. An opportunity we would not have had without the cooperation of the school, Richland Co Extension, and hard work from Kathy Skroch.
Thanks Kathy
See you in April
Kathy

Community Spirit Is Alive And Well Here

Monday, March 24th, 2008

What a difference a few days makes. Just recently several city council people resigned. Our community needed new leaders. The word got out and we have more that a few new people ready to accept leadership in our community. Every community needs willing people to help and take the time to make their town better. Hats off to all the folks who will be on the ballot in our city election in June.

Neighbors Together

Friday, February 29th, 2008

dsc06096b-web.jpgFebruary 16, 2008, friends, family and neighbors got together at the KC Hall in Lidgerwood for a fund raising extravaganza to help Virgil Woytassek pay medical expenses. Many members of surrounding communities joined in for the festivities. There was great food, a live auction, many silent auction items and raffles going on throughout the evening. Virgil was called on at the end of the evening to say a few words. I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes. It was so wonderful to see all those people working together!

Need some skills?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Kathy Skroch has been involved in the Horizons project from the begining. Computer education is an area she and many others in our community are intrested in having. Our Richland County Extension Agent has been helping her accomplish this.
12 laptop computers are available for use by county residents in an education program. Kathy is working out the details to offer this program to our Senior Citizens and many others in our community who don’t have access to this knowledge. This program should be available this winter into spring. Way to go Kathy!!!

Madagascar????

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Do you know where Madagascar is? Students at Lidgerwood had a chance to show off their knowledge. Mary Orth organized a geography bee. This gave the kids a chance to show off their stuff. By being knowledgeable about other cultures we can appreciate the life we have in America.

Our 4 Legged Friends

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Helping others is one of the best things about living in a small town. A Lidgerwood gal is helping our residents and our four legged friends. Tiffany Wisnewski is collecting funds to help control our pet popolation with help from PAWS. Pets add so much to our lives but they can be costly. By helping to spay and nuter our pets, Tiffany is helping make Lidgerwood a great place to live.
