May 4, 2008, found the Council 4778 Knights of Columbus members, family and friends helping make the roads to Lidgerwood a more welcome sight. The Knights and the helpers cleaned six miles of highway, three on Highway 18 North of Lidgerwood and three on Highway 11 to the West of Lidgerwood. As I approach from the west, I can truly enjoy this cleaner view into town. The knights have been part of the Adopt-a-Highway
program in North Dakota for many years. We can all be grateful and enjoy the time and effort that they have put into this for all of us to be able to see the difference that it makes.

Our city is having elections soon. We have many city council seats open this year. Our past leaders have done a great job. They have given others the chance to step up to the plate. Yes, the people listened and have done this. We have people running for all of our open seats. This is a great time for our town. New ideas and energy are always needed and appreciated. I would like to think that our Horizon project has had some impact in bringing our needs to the forefront. Thanks to all who are participating in the upcoming elections.

Last week our main street was a sea of orange vests and men holding strange stick like objects. They talked to each other with walkie talkies and took time to visit with the kids and I. The State of ND is mapping the area. Planning for a new surface for our main street which is also a state highway. This will have an impact on our community in several ways that are obvious to me. Business will be disrupted for a time for all our merchants. This also brings to the forefront the obvious cost of a project of this type. If we do our Main Street does this also open the door for other street projects? Can we affoard this? Can we affoard not to do this? I will be looking to our City Council for answers.

A meeting on June 3, 2008 will explore the idea of starting a friends of the library group.
Other communities in our area have support groups for their libraries. The groups provide support in funding, program ideas, and collection improvements. Our group will start at the beginning. We will work with the library board to identify needs and then move to help accomplish some exciting things for our library and community.

Lidgerwood is moving ahead under the leadership of John Popp and Curt Brownlee.
They are the president and vice president or the Lidgerwood Community Club. This organization has evolved from the LBA or the Lidgerwood Business Organization. By opening the group to the entire community, this will allow all folks of our community to join together to help make our town better. Our upcoming projects are Heritage Day. This will be joined with our Kolache Day. On July 26, 2008 we will celebrate our past and look to the future.
Should be a great day. The LCC also has other projects in the works.
Good job guys.

We hope to get agralime for the fields and build a new fence. We have also planned a community fundraiser for Tinky Field. The fundraiser is taking place Saturday May 31 at the KC Hall, 5:30 to 11:00. We are excited to how much support the comunity can show. Stardust and the Fust Band will be providing our entertainment. As the new City Auditor I am face with many new experiences. One that I am looking forward to is the upcoming city election. I will be Lidgerwood’s election inspector. It sounds scary but I have a group of voulenteers that hve worked elections in the past and I know they will help me through. We dodn’t have any big issues on our ballot this year so I am hoping for a big turnout without too many problems. I hope the members of our comunity come out to show support of their community by voting. I hope to see some of the yourger people in town voting too. I’ll write an update after its all over and let you know how we all faired.
Till later,
Kristin

This may exagerating a bit but I and many of my community members became everyday heros today when we donated blood. United Blood Services comes down every two months or so to the KC Hall to take donations. Its a great feeling of community spirit to be able to help out in this way. We always get good cookies and juice when we are done. Thanks to all who came out to donate. Every little bit helps!

As you can imagine, Kids can have fun with almost any media. Searching though newspapers and boxes was no exception on Saturday, March 22, at the KC Hall in Lidgerwood. Kids and parents gathered for the Easter egg hunt. There were areas roped off for four different age levels. It looked like all enjoyed this time together. It went rather quickly for the kids as they found all the eggs. The 2-4 year olds had a more difficult time as many were a bit timid to pick up eggs, their parents assisted them.
A big THANK YOU! to the Knights of Columbus for setting up and sponsoring this event.
