Elections part 2

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Well we survived the election process and we have the official results. Some of you have read them in the paper but if not here they are. Bonnie Bubach, Gary Scheffler, and Ruben Medenwald were all elected to the 4 year terms they ran for. Bruce Lynn also won his 2 year term. We are still waiting on the write in for the open two year term. Kathleen Schultz won the Judge, and our two Park Board positions will be filled by Diane Aker and Carie Illies.
The election process was great. I enjoyed running the voting tabulator. I like machines. I was surprised at how quick and easy it is to keep your privacy with the macines. I hope to see a few use the auto mark machine to mark their ballots next time. It was the best way to see our government in action. Everyone can have a voice regardless of age, class, race or ability. I’m looking forward to the November election. I hope that all the ladies will be back to take another go at the Election process. Thanks to all who voted and gave us some work!!!!
See you in November!!!!
Kristin

People in Action

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Our city is having elections soon. We have many city council seats open this year. Our past leaders have done a great job. They have given others the chance to step up to the plate. Yes, the people listened and have done this. We have people running for all of our open seats. This is a great time for our town. New ideas and energy are always needed and appreciated. I would like to think that our Horizon project has had some impact in bringing our needs to the forefront. Thanks to all who are participating in the upcoming elections.

Planning for the future

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Last week our main street was a sea of orange vests and men holding strange stick like objects. They talked to each other with walkie talkies and took time to visit with the kids and I. The State of ND is mapping the area. Planning for a new surface for our main street which is also a state highway. This will have an impact on our community in several ways that are obvious to me. Business will be disrupted for a time for all our merchants. This also brings to the forefront the obvious cost of a project of this type. If we do our Main Street does this also open the door for other street projects? Can we affoard this? Can we affoard not to do this? I will be looking to our City Council for answers.

Friends of the Library

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

A meeting on June 3, 2008 will explore the idea of starting a friends of the library group.
Other communities in our area have support groups for their libraries. The groups provide support in funding, program ideas, and collection improvements. Our group will start at the beginning. We will work with the library board to identify needs and then move to help accomplish some exciting things for our library and community.

New Community Organization

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Lidgerwood is moving ahead under the leadership of John Popp and Curt Brownlee.
They are the president and vice president or the Lidgerwood Community Club. This organization has evolved from the LBA or the Lidgerwood Business Organization. By opening the group to the entire community, this will allow all folks of our community to join together to help make our town better. Our upcoming projects are Heritage Day. This will be joined with our Kolache Day. On July 26, 2008 we will celebrate our past and look to the future.
Should be a great day. The LCC also has other projects in the works.
Good job guys.

Elections

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

As the new City Auditor I am face with many new experiences. One that I am looking forward to is the upcoming city election. I will be Lidgerwood’s election inspector. It sounds scary but I have a group of voulenteers that hve worked elections in the past and I know they will help me through. We dodn’t have any big issues on our ballot this year so I am hoping for a big turnout without too many problems. I hope the members of our comunity come out to show support of their community by voting. I hope to see some of the yourger people in town voting too. I’ll write an update after its all over and let you know how we all faired.
Till later,
Kristin

I’m A HERO

Friday, April 18th, 2008

This may exagerating a bit but I and many of my community members became everyday heros today when we donated blood. United Blood Services comes down every two months or so to the KC Hall to take donations. Its a great feeling of community spirit to be able to help out in this way. We always get good cookies and juice when we are done. Thanks to all who came out to donate. Every little bit helps!

ND League of Cities

Monday, March 31st, 2008

I just attended a confrence in Bismarck held by the ND Leagu of Cities. The league is an entire organization there to assist communities and leaders in the running of their towns and cities. I learned many things form the speakers and much more from the other participants. Everyone had good advice for a new auditor. We got to learn in a fun evvironment from each other. The most impressive speaker was the auditor from Northwood, Marcy. She did such an amazing job impessing on us the importance of being prepared. I hope that shoud a tragedy happen in my community we would be able to come together as much as they did.
It was also nice to meet some of the other Horizons community auditors. They were so excited about thier blogs and their communities. I hope to be able to talk with them again soon.
